This tick is a microscopic villain: it carries bacteria responsible for Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia, two potentially serious diseases in humans. One of the most well-known hard ticks in North America, it spreads pathogens while feeding on blood from its host. A sneaky aspect of its lifecycle: symptoms may take several days to appear, giving the tick time to complete its meal before you even realize you're infected. It's earned its place as a significant public health concern, proving that something so small can have outsized consequences for human health.
