Often overshadowed by its famous cousin, this butterfly is every bit as remarkable—and much rarer in some parts of North America. The key difference? Look at the hindwings: where Painted Ladies have four eyespots, this species has just two, and they're usually much larger. Like its more common relative, it's a globe-trotting migrant with an almost unlimited appetite for plants, capable of colonizing new habitats faster than you'd think possible. It's the subtle variations that make nature's family trees so fascinating.
