This species is nature's artwork gallery—it's the most variable lady beetle on Earth, displaying an astounding spectrum of colors and patterns from solid yellow to deep black with red markings and everything in between. Originally from Asia, humans deliberately introduced it worldwide to control agricultural pests, and it worked perhaps too well: now it's thriving on nearly every continent except Antarctica. This invasion success story is love-it-or-hate-it: gardeners appreciate the aphid control, but it outcompetes native beetles and invades homes each fall in massive swarms, making it a complex conservation dilemma.
