GenusTeleogryllus (Teleogryllus)
These Australian crickets punch way above their weight intellectually. They can learn to recognize rewards through training and even identify different smellsโa skill typically reserved for vertebrates. Scientists have successfully conditioned them using odour pairing, basically giving crickets the same treatment behaviorists use with dogs. Their intelligence doesn't stop their destructive habits in Australia and New Zealand, though. These major agricultural pests remain stubbornly destructive while being adaptable and clever enough to adjust to new threats and farming practices.
