Mistaken for bumblebees but actually something much rarer—these large, showy bees are draped in black and orange with striking white facial markings that give them away if you know what to look for. They're orchid bees, members of an entirely different tribe (Euglossini) that lives a strangely specialized lifestyle. Unlike the robust bumblebees they resemble, these corbiculate bees carry pollen in basket-like structures on their hind legs. With their cream and orange-colored abdomens and flashy appearance, they're among the most beautiful bees you'll encounter. Found in tropical regions, they represent a fascinating branch of the bee family tree—proof that evolution has some truly dramatic taste in design.
