This butterfly is a globe-trotter. Its range stretches an astonishing distance—from northwestern Africa in the west all the way to Japan and Siberia in the east, one of nature's most impressive distributions. Its striking black veins against pure white wings make it instantly recognizable. Despite being widespread and common across much of this territory, it's mysteriously absent from the British Isles and far northern Scandinavia—a geographic puzzle that suggests specific temperature or ecological requirements.
