This harvestman's comically long, spindly legs sprouting from a tiny body give all harvestmen their common daddy longlegs nickname. What many people don't realize is that harvestmen are not spiders at all—they're a completely different arachnid order with unique adaptations. Rather than spinning webs or hunting with venom, these creatures are scavengers, feeding on dead plant material, fungi, and decomposing matter in soil and leaf litter. These legs, while fragile-looking, are highly sensitive and allow them to explore environments inaccessible to other creatures. They can shed legs if caught and continue life with fewer limbs—a remarkable display of resilience.
