This beetle has one of nature's most dramatic invasion success stories: native to the Rocky Mountains, it spread across North American and European continents in just decades after 1859, becoming one of the world's major agricultural pests. The bold yellow or orange body with five dark brown stripes on each wing makes it unmistakable. This rapid, catastrophic spread is one of the best examples of how quickly an insect can become a global problem.
