GenusModuza (Moduza)
This strikingly colored brush-footed butterfly has earned its "commander" status through evolutionary cleverness: its caterpillar is a master of concealment, hiding on its host plant in ways that make it nearly invisible. The pupa is equally cryptic, using camouflage despite not needing chemical defenses. This unusual two-stage concealment strategy is rare in the butterfly world and shows just how serious this species is about defense. Found throughout South and Southeast Asia, it proves that sometimes the best strategy is simply refusing to be seen.
