Across much of Europe and Asia, this is the only brimstone butterfly in town—the sole representative of its genus throughout the vast Palearctic zone, so locals simply call it "the brimstone." With a wing span of 60–74 mm, it's medium-sized but unmistakable. Here's the fun part: don't confuse it with the brimstone moth (Opisthograptis luteolata), which uses the exact same common name despite being an entirely different insect—a classic case of overlapping names causing confusion in nature.
