This butterfly has mastered the art of the lie. It is a textbook Batesian mimic — a completely harmless species that has evolved to look almost identical to toxic butterflies, tricking predators into leaving it alone. Found across south and southeast Asia, it pulls off this trick without producing any toxins of its own. Wing patterns, coloration, and even flight behavior closely match the poisonous species it impersonates.

What makes this especially remarkable is that different individuals mimic different toxic species depending on which is locally common — nature's version of a customizable disguise. It has borrowed a warning label it never earned, and predators fall for it every time. Deception this elegant took millions of years to perfect.
