Tiny at just 4-7 mm, this orb weaver has a crafty survival strategy: it strings together the dead bodies of insects and other debris and hangs this macabre decoration near the center of its web. Then it hides directly in this trash line, becoming virtually invisible among the corpses. The camouflage is so effective that you won't notice the spider unless it moves.
When threatened, it adds another layer to its defense: playing dead. The spider will release from its perch and feign death, lying motionless among the actual debris until the threat passes. This tiny architect has engineered one of nature's cleverest defensive strategies โ a combination of disguise and bluffing that few predators can penetrate.
