This southern African mantis has achieved what most insects only dream of: perfect invisibility against tree bark. Cryptically colored and adorned with projections on its head, prothorax, and legs, it's virtually impossible to spot in the woodlands where it hunts. Its long, thin prothorax adds to the illusion, making it look more like gnarled wood than a living predator.

Every surface of its body seems designed to break up its outline and mimic bark texture. This is camouflage taken to an extreme โ€” it doesn't just hide; it becomes the landscape. Once you see one, you can't help but admire the sheer evolutionary craftsmanship.

Think you can identify this one in the wild?
