This dragonfly has earned three different common names: long-tailed duskdarter, brown dusk hawk, and dingy duskflyer. The 'dusk' reference is tellingβ€”it's most active during twilight hours when the light is fading and many competing predators are settling in for the night. This gives it a hunting advantage in the shadowy hours. Despite being called 'dingy,' it's found across a vast range: throughout Asia, New Guinea, northern Australia, and islands scattered across the Pacific. It's adapted to diverse habitats from tropical to subtropical regions across the Indo-Pacific realm.
