Also called the giant sand scorpion, this striking predator lives up to its impressive name. Common throughout the deserts of the southwestern United States, it's one of the region's most notable scorpion species. Belonging to the family Vaejovidae, this scorpion is perfectly adapted to harsh, sandy environments. The "giant" designation sets it apart from other sand-dwelling scorpions in its range. If you're exploring the southwestern desert, this is one you're most likely to encounter.
