Here's something genuinely remarkable: this species is the first centipede ever discovered to have different venom compositions between males and femalesโa trait called sexual dimorphism that was completely unknown in centipedes before its discovery. These bark specialists shelter beneath loose bark on dead or fallen trees, hunting in the protective darkness of their wooden homes. Found across the Eastern United States and into Mexico, they've perfectly adapted to exploit the hidden resources beneath bark, suggesting they've been evolving in isolation longer than most other centipede species.
