At just 35 to 45 millimeters long, this is a pint-sized predator with a striking appearance: jet-black body paired with bright yellow-brown legs and tail. Its small frame belies powerful, oversized claws built for gripping prey. Native to southern Europe and northwest Africa, this tiny hunter has accidentally spread to the United Kingdom via human commerce, establishing itself in a land where scorpions are rare. It's one of the few scorpions Europeans might actually encounter in the wild, making it a fascinating case study in accidental species introduction and adaptation to new climates.
