Florida Predatory Stink Bug Euthyrhynchus floridanus

While most stink bugs are plant-eaters, this Florida native is one of the few carnivorous shield bugs—making it a pest-predator instead of a pest. It hunts smaller insects, spearing them with its piercing mouthparts and draining them dry. It's considered highly beneficial because its diet includes many species of agricultural pests, making it a natural form of pest control.
What makes it even more unusual is that it's the only species in its entire genus, making it a true original. Found only in the hottest regions of the southeastern United States, it's a quiet ally in the garden—when you spot one, you can rest easy knowing it's hunting the insects that damage your plants.
