This tiny terror is just 1.1 to 1.6 cm long, making it smaller than many other cockroach species, yet it's arguably the most widespread household pest on the planet. Sporting two dark parallel stripes running down its back, it has one surprising trait: despite having wings, it barely flies. At best, it glides when startled. Closely related to the Asian cockroach, it's so similar that the two are often mistaken for each other, adding to the confusion whenever these unwelcome visitors appear.
