These ghost ants have mastered the art of looking even smaller than they actually are. The name comes from their striking appearance: a dark head paired with translucent, pale-colored legs and abdomen. The contrast is so effective that your eye struggles to perceive them as a single insect—instead, they appear to float like tiny ghosts across surfaces. They're genuinely small ants, but the color trick makes them seem almost invisible, which is probably excellent camouflage in their natural habitat. This visual deception is particularly effective indoors, where they can become household pests and seem to vanish into walls and floorboards. If you've ever tried to follow one with your eyes and lost it mid-stride, that's exactly what evolution intended.
