Few harvestmen are as visually striking as this species, which sports a jet-black body adorned with two distinctive cream-colored spots on its cephalothorax. Its bold pattern is so consistent that scientists once considered it distinct enough to assign an alternative scientific name, still found in older scientific literature. This European resident ranges from Britain and Ireland through France and Germany to Spain, thriving in temperate forests and hedgerows.
