This seed bug specializes on milkweed plants, which gives it both its common name and its primary food source. Native to India and parts of South Asia, it feeds on the seeds and developing pods of its preferred host plants. Like other seed bugs in the Lygaeidae family, it uses piercing mouthparts to extract nutrients from seeds.

What's interesting is that milkweed plants contain toxins that would poison most insects, yet this species has evolved to tolerate them. This gives it access to food sources that competitors can't touchβ€”a clever evolutionary adaptation that keeps it thriving in its native range.
