This is a dragonfly that doesn't stay put. Called the keyhole glider for its distinctive flight pattern, this species is a legendary long-distance migrant capable of crossing entire oceans. Native to Africa, Arabia, and Asia, it has shown up in the Caribbean, South America, and even Europeβ€”using trade winds to disperse like a living seed. A single individual was recorded in Sicily in 2016, thousands of miles from its normal range. Its wheeling, acrobatic flight style lets it hunt efficiently while covering vast distances, making it a reminder that even insects can be world travelers.
