This delicate fritillary packs some serious pattern into its wings. Marbled fritillaries are named for the intricate marble-like veining that decorates their orange and black surfaces. The "lesser" in its name is a bit humbleβthere may be larger cousins, but this butterfly loses nothing in terms of beauty or complexity. Like most fritillaries, it probably has a taste for violets.
