Here's a genuinely confusing naming nightmare: this spider has at least three different common names, but calling it "daddy long-legs" creates absolute chaos. The problem? "Daddy long-legs" refers to three completely unrelated creaturesβthis cellar spider, harvestmen (which aren't spiders at all), and crane flies. Found practically everywhere humans live (truly cosmopolitan), it's been confusing arachnid enthusiasts since 1775 when it was first formally described. These long-bodied spiders lurk in dark corners looking vaguely menacing, but they're completely harmless and excellent at clearing out insects.
