These "crazy ants" deserve their name — instead of marching in organized lines like other ants, they dash around in erratic, unpredictable patterns, creating total chaos in a storage pantry. One of the world's most widespread ant species, they've invaded buildings and tropical regions everywhere. Despite being unable to sting, they pack a serious chemical weapon: when threatened, they bend their abdomen like a scorpion and spray formic acid with pinpoint accuracy. Watch them in action and you'll see why scientists find them utterly fascinating — their behavior seems almost alien compared to their orderly cousins.
