Marbled Cellar Spider Holocnemus pluchei

Known as the marbled cellar spider or 'daddy long-legs,' this common household spider has a social secret: most individuals don't build their own webs but move into webs built by others and stay awhile, migrating to new homes multiple times throughout their lives. They're comfortable in human spaces โ attics, basements, eaves โ across the North Pacific, Europe, North Africa, Australia, and the Mediterranean. Here's the truly unusual part: unlike most spiders where only males make sounds during mating, female marbled cellar spiders also possess stridulatory organs, and both sexes actively produce sounds for communication. It's a rare partnership in the spider world.
