This Australian stick insect caught naturalists' attention nearly two centuries ago when George Robert Gray first formally described it in 1833. Its distinctive margin-winged appearance—wings with characteristic borders—sets it apart from other Australian phasmids. As an endemic species found nowhere outside southern Australia, it represents an evolutionary strategy perfected over millions of years: complete visual deception through shape and color mimicry combined with cryptic behavior.
