GenusMegaponera (Megaponera)
Named after fierce African warriors, these ants live up to their reputation with sophisticated military-style tactics. When raiding termite colonies, they march in organized column formations that would impress any human strategist. Growing up to 25 millimeters, they rank among the world's largest antsβand they're absolutely specialized termite hunters, making termites their entire diet. Unlike most ants that eat whatever they find, these disciplined raiders focus exclusively on termite colonies. Their coordinated attacks showcase some of the most impressive predatory behavior in the insect world.
