This long-jawed orbweaver stretches from southern Canada to Colombia, making it one of the most widespread species in its group—a remarkable range for a specialized web-builder. What makes it truly unusual is its horizontal web orientation. While most orbweavers build vertical circular webs, this species hangs down from a horizontal web like a trapeze artist, positioned perfectly to intercept prey moving through the air.

It's a brilliant adaptation for catching flying insects mid-flight. Found along the East Coast into the central US and also in South Asia, this spider demonstrates how the same hunting strategy can succeed across dramatically different continents and ecosystems.
