At just 5.5 to 7 millimeters long, this black and white burrowing bug is a tiny but striking punctuation mark among shield bugs. Its dramatic pied coloring—a sharp contrast of jet black and pure white—makes it instantly recognizable, even at such a diminutive size. Found across Europe, this underground-dwelling bug reminds us that bold camouflage patterns aren't reserved for large insects. Sometimes nature's most dramatic fashion statements come in the smallest packages.
