This European woodlouse became a North American invader, successfully colonizing most of the northern United States and southern Canada, spreading as far west as Alberta. Starting from its native range across Europe, Rathke's woodlouse demonstrates the surprising ability of these small crustaceans to thrive far from home. Wherever humans go, this species tends to follow, establishing itself in new ecosystems with remarkable ease.
