Sporting a brilliant metallic sheen, this wood-boring beetle earned its name from the distinctive rusty-red coloring on its neck and front section. As a member of the jewel beetle family, it's a lookerβsleek and iridescent. However, beneath that shiny exterior hides a wood-tunneling larva that works its way through cane and woody plants. With a range spanning Europe, Asia, and North America, this is a truly cosmopolitan wood-borer, though far less infamous than its agricultural pest cousins.
