The Saddleback gets its evocative common name from distinctive markings found across the Phalangiidae family, one of the most abundant harvestman groups in temperate regions worldwide. These miniature arachnids are strictly nocturnal hunters that emerge after dark to pursue small arthropods through leaf litter and soil. Unlike spiders, they rely entirely on speed and stealth rather than venom or web-building strategies.
