Here's a damselfly built for the cold. Unlike most damselflies that can't survive freezing temperatures, this species is a genuine winter specialist found across northern Europe, from Scandinavia to Russia. It overwinters as a nymph in frozen streams, able to tolerate conditions that would kill most insects. When spring arrives, it completes its final transformation and takes to the water as an adult, thriving where few other damselflies dare venture.
