This striking swallowtail butterfly reigns throughout the Iberian Peninsula, the region shared by Spain and Portugal. What makes it remarkable is its incredible flexibility—unlike many butterflies confined to specific habitats or elevations, the Spanish festoon thrives in nearly every environment the region offers, from Mediterranean coastlines and scrublands to mountainous interiors and wooded valleys. This adaptability has made it one of Iberia's most common and recognizable butterflies.
