A true native hunter throughout the Americas, this large lady beetle is a voracious aphid-eater in both life stages. The spiky orange larvae and colorful spotted adults form a perfect predatory team—together they can devour hundreds of aphids throughout the growing season. This makes them favorite allies in organic gardens and a go-to choice for professional integrated pest management programs. The multiple common names (spotted lady beetle, pink-spotted lady beetle, twelve-spotted lady beetle) reflect the species' variable appearance, but regardless of its look, every individual shares one defining trait: an insatiable appetite for agricultural pests.
