The name says it all—"stream ruby" refers to this damselfly's stunning crimson or ruby-red coloration, making it one of the most visually striking damselflies of South India. Found only in the hill streams of southern India (it's endemic, meaning it exists nowhere else), this Chlorocyphidae family member is perfectly adapted to flowing, clear waters. Hill streams demand damselflies with specialized behaviors and body forms, and the stream ruby is built for these fast, cool habitats. Seeing one is a special reward for hikers and naturalists exploring the Western Ghats region.
