Here's a darkly fascinating biological relationship: this soldier fly serves as an unwilling host for parasitoid wasps, which lay eggs inside it and their larvae consume it from the inside out—nature's brutal pest control mechanism. While it damages pasture and crops like oats and maize, it's not considered a major agricultural pest, which ironically makes it easy to overlook. As a member of the soldier fly family, it occupies a quiet role in the ecosystem—significant enough to matter, but not significant enough to raise alarm bells.
