Named for its preference for wetland habitats, this dragonfly makes its home in marshes, swamps, and along waterways. It sports a striking ashy body with a distinctive yellow tail that helps identify it among similar species. One of just two species in its genus, it's been recognized by dragonfly watchers since it was first formally described in the 1840s.
