This remarkable longhorn beetle is completely alone in its genus—the one and only species of Hypsideroides ever discovered. Formally named by entomologist Karl Jordan in 1906, it remains a relatively obscure and scientifically unique species.

Like all longhorn beetles, it likely follows the wood-boring lifestyle typical of the family, with larvae tunneling through wood and leaving characteristic round exit holes. The fact that it's the sole member of its genus suggests it occupies a specialized ecological niche.
