This specialist predator has one obsession: woodlice (also called pillbugs, sowbugs, or slaters). While most spiders eat whatever insects they can catch, the woodlouse spider is delightfully picky—it hunts almost exclusively for these armored crustaceans. It's evolved specialized fangs perfectly designed to pierce the hard exoskeletons of its preferred prey. Found in dark, damp places worldwide, it fills a unique ecological niche that few other spiders occupy. This is extreme specialization—a hunter so finely tuned to one prey type that it's become virtually synonymous with it.
