Here's what makes this moth special: while most Geometridae moths rely on cryptic camouflage, this species went the opposite direction. The yellow shell earned its name from brilliantly colored wings that break all the geometer moth rules. First described by Linnaeus in 1758, it's been fascinating collectors for nearly three centuries. It ranges impressively far, spreading across Europe and eastward all the way to the Altai Mountainsβ€”one of those successful temperate insects that thrives from Atlantic coasts to remote Central Asian plateaus.
