The yellownecked dry-wood termite belongs to one of the most primitive termite families—Kalotermitidae—making it a living fossil of sorts. Unlike their moisture-loving cousins, these termites thrive in completely dry wood, requiring no water source. That's exactly why they've become notorious wood-eating pests in homes worldwide, silently tunneling through structural beams with the yellow neck marking as their only visible calling card.
