This spider builds some of the most impressive webs in the arachnid world — and they're genuinely golden in color, a feature so distinctive that they're universally called golden silk orb-weavers. The silk itself is remarkable: ounce for ounce, it's stronger than steel, which is why researchers have been trying to synthesize it for decades.

These large weavers are found in warm regions worldwide and go by colorful names: banana spiders, giant wood spiders, or orb-weavers. Their oversized webs can span several meters, and the entire structure — web and all — is woven in shimmering gold.
