The 'dancing dropwing'—also called the 'long-legged marsh glider'—wears both names as badges of its aerial prowess. Those elongated hind legs trail behind during flight like flowing scarves, helping it balance and maneuver while hunting with balletic grace. It darts and hovers above marshy vegetation with remarkable agility across Asia.
Males perform territorial dances, hovering and diving in patterns that look almost choreographed, while snatching small insects from the air. They're marsh specialists that thrive in shallow wetlands, where their long-legged silhouette is a familiar sight during daylight hours.
