Don't let its modest 7-centimeter length fool you—this swift hunter moves with impressive speed and agility across the eastern forest floor. The eastern red centipede is surprisingly venomous for its size, inflicting genuinely painful bites that are dangerously underestimated by unsuspecting humans. Found throughout eastern North America beneath leaf litter and in soil, it represents one of the region's most capable midsized predators, hunting efficiently through darkness. Despite its smaller stature compared to giant cousins, this species is genuinely formidable and deserves respect.
