Hidden in Mediterranean scrubland and forests, this species blends seamlessly with its surroundings. Like all mantises, it's a perfectly evolved ambush predator—patient, fast, and merciless. The genus includes some of Europe's most beautifully patterned species, and this one uses cryptic coloration to vanish into vegetation. What it may lack in fame compared to giant Asian cousins, it makes up for in the refined lethality of its hunting technique.
