Here's a paradox: despite spanning the entire Mediterranean region from Portugal to Egypt, this conehead mantis is rarely seen. Its extreme cryptic nature—coloration and shape perfectly matching lichen, bark, or whatever substrate it perches on—means most of humanity walks right past it without noticing. The fragmented, low-density populations compound this invisibility, making genuine sightings a treat for entomologists. Its ornate head shape and Mediterranean elegance make it worth the hunt, but you'll need patience and keen eyes. Finding one is a reward earned through dedication.
