This tick belongs to a genus earning the ominous nickname "Bont Ticks," but the real concern is their role as dangerous disease vectors. Amblyomma species transmit serious pathogens worldwide, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever in the US and ehrlichiosis in Brazil. Gem ticks remind us that some of Earth's tiniest creatures pose outsized health risks to humans and animals. Their significance in medical and veterinary circles far exceeds what their size might suggest.
